The founders believe that many people in this country fail to appreciate the great variety of music produced in the world today principally because they have not been educated about that music, or have not had chance to hear it performed. January 22, 2012, 3:00 pm, McAllister Auditorium, San Antonio, TX: "Beethoven in the Style of Jazz" Featuring Featuring Mark Cheikhet, Valery Grokhovski and Boris Andrianov: Musical Bridges Around the World in collaboration with the San Antonio Symphony's Beethoven Festival: Partnering with the San Antonio Symphony in the City-Wide Beethoven Festival, Musical Bridges Around the World presents an international collaboration between Russian-trained musicians Valery Grokhovski, piano, Mark Cheikhet, violin, and Boris Andrianov, cello, and local jazz musicians, Adam Booker, bass, and Darren Kuper, drums; all brilliant musicians with the rare ability to switch flawlessly from Classical to Jazz, and back again. The program includes unique jazz interpretations of works by Beethoven and Bach, as well as Bach’s Piano Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052, and Violin Concerto BMV 1041. Kids to Concerts reaches 7000 students annually, serving economically disadvantaged and at-risk students throughout San Antonio public schools. Kids to Concerts performances reach children in the San Antonio community who lack access to quality, multicultural musical programming, bringing international artists of the highest caliber directly into San Antonio schools, at no charge to the schools visited. The Fusion of the Arts Concert on Saturday, February 4th combines Cheikhet’s long study of classical music, and overflow of creativity in painting sound composition, in a remarkable evening of violin performance accompanied by a short presentation of his work as an artist. The free and open to the public concert will highlight excerpts from Cheikhet’s Encore! Album and will be followed by a wine reception and artist meet and greet. February 5, 2012, San Antonio, TX: Musical Evenings at San Fernando Cathedral "Beethoven Sonatas 4, 5, and 6" Featuring violinist Mark Cheikhet, and pianist Elena Basilova presented by Musical Bridges Around the World in collaboration with the San Antonio Symphony's Beethoven Festival: Russian violinist Mark Cheikhet and pianist Elena Basilova bring a special performance of Beethoven Sonatas to the "Musical Evenings at San Fernando Cathedral" series, designed after the European model of free concerts in historic destinations like Venice, Florence, and Amsterdam. The Sunday evening concerts entice listeners to explore the location of several buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. San Fernando, the oldest cathedral in the U.S., abuts the Bexar County Courthouse and between them, a revitalized Main Plaza leads to the Riverwalk, a top Texas tourist destination. Concerts are produced at San Fernando Cathedral on select Sundays, featuring world-class classical musicians.
